Long time Clear Lake native, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1972
Education
B.A. Magna Cum Laude with a double major of history and political science with a double minor in sociology and English from the University of Northern Iowa in 1976
M.A. Magna Cum Laude in history from the University of Northern Iowa in 1985
Close-Up Foundation Teacher Institutes in Washington, D.C.

Graduate Teaching Assistant at UNI to Dr. Donald Whitnah in Constitutional History and Law and to Dr. David Walker in U.S. History to 1877 (spring 1977)

Areas of Professional Development
Numerous trips to numerous state and national parks, monuments, and historic sites. Followed the Oregon Trail twice. Since 1992, have guided students on a seven-day summer study visit to Washington, D.C., Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Petersburg, VA. Have presented curriculum to history educators from across the country and the CWPT Teacher’s Institute. Created law-related education for Wake Forest University
